Creating a Successful AdWords Campaign
As mentioned in previous blogs - SEM or search engine marketing is always a great way to promote your website, business or product AND increase your rankings in search engines.
A common form of SEM is Google AdWords. Google AdWords is pay-per-click advertising, meaning you don’t pay unless someone clicks on your ad – so no matter your budget, AdWords can work for you.
To successfully run an AdWords campaign you need to consider the following
- Target Audience - Remember to think like your customer. You need to define your audience and think “what would someone looking for my product or services search for in Google?
- Be Specific - You need to be specific and targeted in your ads. Have one key audience per advertisement or adgroup. Don’t try and hit everyone with the same ad.
- Keywords - Be sure to think carefully about the list of keywords you choose to use for each ad. Remember the keywords should pertain to one key audience, not 5 or 6
- Location - When creating your ad in Google be sure to use the location targeting feature. AdWords lets you choose what geographical location you want your ad to target. This way people searching outside of Canada won’t see your ad if, for example, you don’t offer your service or product outside of Canad
- Landing Pages - Try to use targeted landing pages for your ads. Instead of dropping someone on the homepage of your website – drop them on the information they have already search for.
- Negative Keywords - Use “negative keywords”. Negative keywords are keywords that might be close to, but do not necessarily pertain to your product or service. Put a “–“ sign in front of the keyword letting Google know not to display your ad when someone searches that keyword.
Keep these tips in mind and you’re sure to run a much more successful AdWords campaign!
