If A Tree Falls
In London and abroad, many companies are doing great things - but nobody seems to know or notice. The question that must be asked is:
What is your company doing to let people know about the great things you have done or are doing?
Bruce Cockburn said it best "“ "If a tree falls in a forest, does anybody hear?"
What made this song so powerful was that it not only incorporated a philosophical riddle, but it also told a moving story about the plight of the rain forest.
With so many media avenues available (especially social media channels), it is now easier than ever to get the word out about your company and its accomplishments. The Main Stream Media is starved for positive "feel good" stories ... especially in this tough economic environment!
Let’s all take some time to reflect and see if any trees have fallen in our forests?
Why not write a press release about something great:
- Your company has done.
- One of your employees has done.
- One of your clients has done. (You might actually have a few clients that would benefit from the extra exposure)
- A worthy cause that your company or your employees support.
Now let’s not go and spam a bunch of stories out to the press and all of our contacts! This approach would quickly gain you a few enemies, and your story would definitely NOT get told!
What I am trying to get across is that - If you don’t let people know what you are doing, they will draw their own conclusions. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but why not create your own impressions about your brand.
So if a tree falls in YOUR forest ... make sure you make some "sounds" and tell that story!
