Take Two Tablets and Call Me in the Morning

Technology has changed how we interact with the online world, and many segments have seen a revamp or shift in how we do things. Some notable mentions are the iPhone (larger touch screen interface), cloud computing, social media and many more. For some reason – the laptop has not seen its rebirth.

The traditional keyboard on bottom and screen on top format – has been the norm for over 20 years. However some other configurations have surfaced with some success. Many of us now work on laptops and desktop computers have been relegated the office environment, the basement – or in some cases the computer recycler! But alas … the times are changing and the laptop is finally changing with them.

The latest buzz for laptops is the tablet or slate and both Mac and PC (Microsoft) are racing to be first to market. Now you must remember, first to market isn’t a predictor of future success.

Let’s review the two offerings as they are in reality quite different.

  1. The Mac or Apple Tablet – (Official pictures/specifications aren't available yet.) The iPhone has enabled us to do a larger portion of our computing on the go. The Mac Tablet takes this one step further by adding a larger screen, more power with the same touch screen interface.
  2. The Microsoft Courier Tablet – looks more like a dual screen e-reader and functions more like a book, but definitely will offer a new and different user experience.

Now both of these of these devices are rumoured to hit the shelves this year … and I am curious to see which device will be the market leader. I must admit that my money is on the Mac Tablet based on the success of the iPhone and let’s be honest - it just looks cool!
