People Don't Like Change, but What Else is New?

Facebook is changing all of the time. People don't like change. So it’s no surprise to me that with the recent changes to Facebook, people and businesses alike are "going to quit”. I don't believe this one bit.

Over the years Facebook has thrown numerous changes at us: a news feed, timeline, live chat, amongst many rounds of new interfaces and designs. Sure, this has affected how we communicate with our friends and family, but recent changes to Facebook are greatly affecting business too.

With the new Unsubscribe and Interaction feature it’s becoming much more difficult for businesses to promote themselves online. Followers of your business can unsubscribe from your news feed and you’re now only able to communicate with people you’ve recently had an interaction with – this change scares a lot of people, but if you think about it, it’s not really that bad.

With the new Unsubscribe and Interaction feature, businesses will be forced to produce better content online. To me, this is great news! So now what?

We need to adjust. Businesses will learn that it’s important to produce newsworthy content that is relevant to their followers. Engagement is no longer an option, but a necessity if you want your followers to see your updates in their news feed. Communicate, interact and give people a reason to follow your business on Facebook.

So now you're thinking, "What if you lose some followers in this change?"

Even if you’re communicating with a smaller set of followers, it’s these followers (who engage and interact with you) who are most likely to help spread your message and story. It’s these followers who will become your brands ambassadors.

So don’t worry and don’t be scared. Embrace and accept the Facebook change, and improve the way you communicate online.
