I Hate My Website ...

Many people might say that they "hate their website", but very few can explain why. Now before we go on about the red background or the wrong pictures being placed in the flash banner, let’s really get to the heart of the matter. If you change the design are you really making the website better or just different!

The reason most people dislike their websites can actually be traced back to the initial consultation with the web developer. Before you meet with your web developer you should come prepared with the following company information.

  1. Key User Groups - Who uses your website the most? Who is your target online customer or visitor to the site?
  2. Content - What do you want visitors to learn about your company once they visit your website?
  3. Action - What do you want visitors to do once they get to the site?
  4. Success Factors - Outline what you would feel is a successful visit to your site. (This could be something as simple as visiting the homepage, a few sub pages and then the contact page)

If you can build your website around these few key questions and wrap them into a dynamic design you will definitely be on your way to having a website that you love. Obviously there is more to it than that, but that will unfold once you start discussing the questions above.

By defining your expectations and implementing the right reporting tools, you can see if your website has been successful or not. Once you realize the value of your new site ... I am sure that you will fall in love again!
