How You Can Use The Twitter Favourites Feature

One of Twitter’s most-ignored features is the “Favourites” feature (some may argue that it's lists). I'm sure you've all seen it and surely know how it works, but have you ever really given any thought about how to actually use Favourites for your benefit?

I took to Twitter and asked how others used the "Favourites" tool -- answers included:

From the above you can see that people generally use it in the same manner. Recently, I decided I would shift my approach (actually it's comparable to what @JimReyno Tweeted, although it's not solely to cheer myself up).  I now try "Favouriting" all compliments, positive references to my work, and referrals I may receive.  Similar to what you see on websites, I seek to use Favourites as a customer or personal referral system.  I try and leverage my popularity (even if it's not that much) with the people of Twitter.

Here are some examples of followers acknowledging my good conversation and what I share:

Examples of people referring  to my work:

Recommendations and word of mouth have always been important. But in the age of social media, I believe they are essential. Here are some ways I recommend using the Favourites tool:

Try Highlighting Your RTs

Whenever you receive a RT that is about your work, Favourite that Tweet. If someone thanks you for your work, a talk you just led, or about the opinions you shared, Favourite those too. This gives potential followers (customers) reasons to follow you.

Why Not Tweet Your Own Favourites

Once you have gathered a substantial Favourites list, try Tweeting a link to this section and promote what others are saying about you.

Share Others' Favourites

Help recognize other people’s work by Tweeting the link to their Favourites section.  This demonstrates that you're willing to share content and help others.

How do you use the Favourites tool? Is what I've mentioned above something you'll try and do you think it could benefit you in any way? Let me know your opinions and thoughts below.
