How To Create Your Own YouTube Channel

Web videos are becoming an increasingly popular way to display content online (some companies are even turning their blogs into VBlogs or Video Blogs!). Web videos are not only much more interesting for users to view than reading 3 paragraphs of text, but they’re dynamic, fun and can be easy to make. All you need is a video camera (or iPhone), tripod and you!

A cheap (free!) and easy way to jump on the web video bandwagon is by creating your own YouTube Channel. Follow these 5 simple steps and you’ll be up and running on YouTube in no time!

  1. Create an account OR “channel” with YouTube – if you already have a Google account you can link this account to YouTube
  2. Create a Username and fill out the “Get started with your account form”
  3. Confirm and activate your account through the confirmation email you’ll be sent shortly after you complete the sign up form
  4. Sign-in using your Username and Password
  5. Click on the Upload button and begin filling your channel!

YouTube accepts a wide range of video file formats – so even if you’re new to video production there is a format that will work for you. The file types accepted are: .WMV, .3GP, .AVI, .MOV, .MP4, .MPEG, .FLV, .SWF and .MKV.

Once you have your account set up users can subscribe to your channel and have the option to rate your videos so you can see what people think about your video content in real-time. YouTube is free and it’s accessible to anyone with an internet connection – so the next time you’re thinking about posting a video on your website, give YouTube a try!
