Follow Friday #FF

If you're on Twitter, you've probably seen, if not participated in, the #FF hashtag.  But, just in case you haven’t, or you’ve been wondering what it was…

#FF is a way of recommending your Twitter followers to people you find interesting, humorous, or educational.

With that being said, a lot of people are lazy and put little thought into this process at all, usually sending out a tweet that looks a lot like this:

#FF @sweetstellas @unmarketing @campbellchrisj @ml_baldwin  @Lashbrook_pr @Nashjewellers @Ldncc @StuartClark @LondonFringe @KathyMdowntown

The problem with the above is not a lack of worthy people to follow (they are all pretty darn amazing) it’s a lack of info.  When I see a tweet like this I have no idea why these people are being recommended.

Here are a few examples for endorsing those awesome tweeps whose updates you look forward to on a daily basis:

#FF @KathyMdowntown for anything downtown #LDNont - she works, plays, and shops there! plus always offering great recommendations

Are you a nonprofit organization that needs help fulfilling your missions #FF @PillarNN

For PR, Social Media and Marketing Advice and the occasional humorous tweet #FF @Lashbrook_pr @campbellchrisj @digitalechidna

A big #FF to @Nashjewellers whose Magic Moment story contest is giving finalists a chance to win $2000.00 towards a purchase!! www.nashmagic.com/vote

The more people you recommend in a single tweet, the more you confuse your followers and the less likely they will actually follow the recommendations.

If you truly think someone is worth following, then you should explain why that person is worth following and if you have a big list, save some of those names for next week!

Happy #FollowFriday!
