It's a New Year, Let's Re-Vamp Our Message

Well, it’s 2011 (Happy New Year everyone!) and time to start thinking about your online marketing strategy. A key ingredient to having an effective online marketing strategy is keeping your message consistent. So whether you’re tweeting, writing the content for the homepage of your new website or an ad for your next PPC marketing campaign – be sure to know your value proposition.

A value proposition should be a clear statement of the benefit a customer gets from using your product or service. The more specific and unique your value proposition is – the better! You should re-evaluate your value proposition from year to year and think about these questions:

  • Who is my customer?
  • Who is my target audience?
  • What are my customer’s problems or concerns?
  • How does my product or service benefit my customer?
  • How is my product or service different than my competitors?

Try to use numbers or percentages when forming your value proposition, as this will help to ensure your positioning statement stands out from the rest.

Now that you have your value proposition, and you know what you want to say – craft this message for all areas of your marketing strategy. Although your message should remain the same, the tone, wording or language may change (because your audiences will change) depending on whether you’re writing for Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, your website or blog.

So grab 2011 by the horns – re-evaluate your message, re-evaluate your positioning statement and improve your online marketing strategy!
