Getting Started Can Be Tough, But We're Here to Help!

Are you creating a brand new website, but new to the whole website game? Getting started can be tough, so hopefully you have a great online agency ready to help you out. You do? Great! Now first things first…let’s plan for and write your first draft of web content.

Step One: Get Focused

Focus in on your target audience, business goals and objectives. List in priority what you would like a user to do when they come to your website. Focus in on situations that have high potential for customer engagement and start to layout your pages or “building blocks” of content. Remember to work together with colleagues who have insight and knowledge about your organization, brand and image so that you can bring this to life through your online copy.

Step Two: Get Down to Business

Now that you’re in the mindset to get started, it’s time to create the first draft of content. Reference back to your business goals and objectives and write, write, write! Remember, less is always more on the web and it’s best to make use of sub-headings and bulleted lists.

Step Three: Review, Edit and Revise

Before your website goes live…review, review and then review again! You don’t want to have a website that doesn’t read well. Get experienced professionals to help you edit your website content. A content strategy community does exist and is full of helpful people. Look at content strategy on Google Groups and #contentstrategy on Twitter to connect with a universe of smart, respected people in the industry of website development and content strategy.

Congratulations, you made it! Now that you have a solid draft of content, you can start to focus on design and functionality.
