Always Be Prepared
We’ve previously discussed the importance of Content Strategy and how with good, planned-for content your website will be successful. We’ve talked about the importance of owning your web content and how the work does not stop after you’ve launched your brand new website.
But, what about those little unknowns? In addition to planning for, owning and continually revising your website content, it’s also important to take the time to put together a plan for situations or issues that may arise and affect your online marketing strategy.
For example:
- What do you do if the person who owns your web content and is responsible for updating the website, leaves the company? How do you cope? Are multiple people trained on your CMS (content management system)?
Just like Boy Scout motto, it’s always important to BE PREPARED. Plan for the unknowns and the crises as well. Ensure that multiple people within your organization are trained on the CMS and that your marketing and communications director is not the only person prepped on your online marketing image and brand.
Consider drafting up a content creation schedule where a few people are responsible for writing, editing and reviewing the content on your website on a regular basis.
Ask your team:
- When was the last time our blog was updated? Should I un-publish this one webpage that nobody ever visits?
Processes and plans are a great way to ensure that everyone responsible for the website is on the same page. Create a schedule, create a process and once you’ve put that process into place – stick to it!
