Why Do I Need a CMS?
"Why do I need a CMS?"
"I don’t have time to be updating my website!"
At Echidna we work most commonly on a CMS (content management system) called Drupal. Drupal is a free, open-source CMS powering millions of websites and applications worldwide. Drupal is built and supported by an active community of people, which means that Drupal is ALWAYS being updated and improved.
So what does this mean for you, the client, and why do you need a CMS? Even if you don’t have time to update your website on a regular basis OR you want your web team to complete all updates for you, a CMS like Drupal still offers you a vast range of opportunity.
Picture this…
You’ve asked your web team to create you a new piece of web functionality that has really got your marketing and communications team excited. It’s THIS piece of functionality that is going to make you stand out from your competition. Unfortunately, you’re working on a tight budget (as we all are) and need this update completed ASAP. You call your web team, fingers and toes crossed.
Version 1: You Don’t Have a CMS
“We’re sorry sir. The functionality you’re requesting is possible and our team has the skill set to implement this idea, but on the budget and timeline you’re looking for, it’s just not do-able.”
Version 2: You Have a Drupal CMS!
“Absolutely sir! I’ve done a bit of research and have found that 2 or 3 people (within the Drupal community) have already written some code that does something similar to what you’re looking for. With a bit of customization I can have this up and running for you within a few hours. When do you need this completed by?”
As you can see from these 2 scenarios, the Drupal CMS still does offer benefits to you even if you’re not looking to update your website all of the time. Because of Drupal’s ever growing community you’re handed a free, flexible and robust web system with a million and one capabilities!
